"Tampopo" is one of the most famous Japanese movies directed by Jyuzo Itami in 1985. This whole movie is all about tribute to food. It starts with a scene that a old guy tells a young guy how to eat ramen properly with great appreciation to it. Tsutomu Yamazaki (played a ramen master in "The Ramen Girl") and Nobuko Miyamoto (married with Jyuzo Itami) plays main charactors. You can also find Ken Watanabe from "Last Samurai" in his early carrier. The main story is about that a guy helps out a hopeless ramen noodle shop to be the popular one. The main story itself is already funny enough and can be completed however there are short stories inserted randomly throughout the movie and they are also very outstanding and original. You can see how important food is to Japanese culture and people from high class to low. After the movie, you are promised to be wanting a ramen or maybe a omlet rice.
